Testimonials

Parent of a child with disabilities

You don’t realize how many activities your family is excluded from until you experience true inclusion. I am so very grateful for Disability Inclusion Day at the Diamond hosted by Friendship Circle of Virginia. I didn’t think a baseball game was in the cards for us. And yet, after an afternoon at the Squirrels stadium, including a sensory picnic area where my son played for two hours, he didn’t want to come home. The challenge now is explaining that not every game will be like that. Thank you for this incredible event and including my kids. I am so grateful.

Richmond Flying Squirrels

"The Flying Squirrels are proud to partner with The Friendship Circle for the 4th year in a row to host Disability Inclusion Day at The Diamond. Our shared missions to be inclusive, provide opportunities for everyone to have FUNN, and bring the community together make it a perfect match! We are honored to support all of the wonderful work The Friendship Circle does for RVA!"

Parent of a child with disabilities

“We finally have an opportunity to connect to the disability community after feeling so lonely and isolated with my son who is newly diagnosed. Now we have resources and a community of support we didn't even know existed!”

Parent of a child with disabilities:

"Thank you for a great day. What a wonderful family memory. This is first time either of our two children on the autism spectrum have ever attended a baseball game and it was so spectacular and now we know we might be able to try others in the future 🙏"

Prince George Special Olympics

I would like to send the gratitude of the athletes and families from Prince George County Special Olympics who were in attendance at Inclusion Day at the Diamond. We had a group of about 40 who were able to enjoy the wonderful experience thanks to the Friendship Circle's dedicated volunteers and donations! The only thing that would have made it perfect would have been a Squirrel's win! I want to thank you on behalf of our group for organizing such an event; I can only imagine the time, people, efforts, and resources that it takes to offer people in our community this experience. We enjoyed the weather, the tickets, the food, the sensory stations, sensory-friendly PA announcer, freebies, and the inclusiveness of the day and kindness of your volunteers. Thank you again for your generosity!
