Participants will learn court mobility\, stroke technique\, the rules and scoring of the game\, all while building strength\, cardiovascular ability\, and self-esteem in a fun group instruction environment. \nWith an emphasis on fun and learning\, Sportable’s Youth + Beginner Wheelchair Tennis program focuses on individual skill development\, learning the rules of the game\, and beginning the pathway for athletes to a lifelong sport. \nTime: 5:00-6:00 PM  \nLocation: Westwood Club – 6200 W Club Ln\, Richmond\, VA 23226 \nWho: This program is for individuals ages 5 & up who have a permanent disability that affects their lower limb(s)\, including\, but not limited to: Spinal Cord Injury\, Spina Bifida\, Cerebral Palsy\, Amputation\, Osteogenesis Imperfecta\, etc. Players must be able to propel themselves independently on the court in a manual / power wheelchair.

DESCRIPTION:Self-Care Time for Caregivers!\nWe all love our kids\, and we all need some adult time too. Enjoy some time away while VDSA and Treehouse Therapy keep your children ages 5+ safe and occupied! This event is open to families of individuals with Down syndrome. For our first Parent Night\, we are accepting participants ages 5 and older. Email Sherry to join the waitlist for this event if registration is closed: sklauer@virginiadsa.org. \n\nThe VDSA Parents Night Respite Event will take place on Friday\, January 12th from 6 pm- 8 pm at Treehouse Pediatric Therapy (12201 Gayton Rd. Henrico\, VA 23238). Individuals with Down syndrome (5+) and their siblings (5+) are welcome at this event. Games and activities will be provided for the attendees. Please bring a labeled bagged dinner (something that does not need to be heated) and a water bottle as well as any other supplies your children may need during their time with us. \nWhen you register\, please add tickets for all of the children that will attend. You will also receive an email requesting additional information about your children that will assist us as we care for them on 1/12. We must receive all of the information back before Monday 1/8 to ensure your family’s participation. \nVDSA staff along with volunteers (who have all passed criminal background checks) will be on sight to supervise the attendees. The max attendance for this event is 15 participants so the event will book up quickly! We plan to make these events more regular and offer sessions where we will welcome babies and children under 5 in the future.
